I have technical phone screen interview scheduled with Facebook in less than a week. I've known about it for three weeks, and the truth is, I made every intention to study (I even paid for Leetcode's Facebook Interview Prep), but due to my existing job, family and a shitty time with the flu recently, I haven't had time to really sit down and study. I'm sure a lot of you will immediately say I'm making excuses, but honestly, when you get up at 7 and get home at 7...cracking open CTIC is not easy. I've been out of school for more nearly 6 years, and although I can program and have programmed for a living since I graduated (albeit as more of a support person and web developer than a proper "software engineer"), I could not really answer a medium/difficult data structures or algorithm question to save my life. In fact, on leetcode, I have only had luck solving (a handful) of the questions marked as "easy", and they have all taken me more than 45 minutes My question to you guys is: would it be better to lie, say I got some other job and cancel the phone screen or completely fail it and potentially get blacklisted from the company for a while? Also, what's a good job for someone who really loves technology, has some decent experience, but just cannot solve or even stand these types of questions. Are there roles for people like me?
