Hello all you on-the-fencers, I started this year making 65k a year and have jumped to a job making 140k base salary. Background: I am a bootcamp grad from a non-technical non-STEM background. I have a bachelors degree in Liberal Studies with no specialty in math/science. I used to teach public elementary school before COVID and took that time to self-study enough to get accepted to a higher-end bootcamp. After bootcamp I was hired at a recognizable company as an intern that turned into a full time entry level position in middle America making 65k. After a year, I decided I was going to make the jump because all of you here in this subreddit said to jump if you have at least 1 year of experience. Boy you weren't wrong! I've made 115% wage increase this year with only 1 YOE under my belt. I'd like to mention I had a lower paying job in middle America to a job in a very high COL area. I feel like I'm in a dream and I'm going to wake up tomorrow back in a stale, COVID filled classroom. I am 100% remote and was sure to ask to stay that way before I accepted anything. I want to thank all of you here that gave me the courage and the steps to take to be able to do this. Thank you so very much from the bottom of my heart. TLDR: Job hop got me 115% increase in base salary this year.
