I graduated in spring 2025 from a mid tier college with 3.7 gpa. I come from a low working class background, I’ve had a job since 8th grade. I fell for the learn to code advice and thought it would be my golden ticket out of poverty so I majored in cs even though I didn’t particularly have a liking for tech, neither of my parents nor anyone close to me went to college so I had no guidance and was basically figuring it out on my own. My first year of cs I struggled a lot learning all the new concepts and I didn’t enjoy the process at all, but I told myself it would be worth it in the end. I didn’t think I had the luxury of enjoying my work, I just wanted to make it. I worked throughout college at a pizza place so I never did internships, i thought the degree would be enough to get a job at a mid tier company, I never cared for working at FAANG and that was never my goal. Now I’m almost 1 year out of college and still haven’t even been given a single interview despite hundreds of applications. I know my resume sucks it only has my degree, coursework, and projects I worked on. I’m still working 60 hours a week and I feel so demotivated to do projects in my free time. Feel like I wasted 4 years and my only chance to escape lower class life.
