I have a quick question. Has anyone ever been asked to set up a 10 minute call which was a video call in order to be rejected? I am at offer/rejection stage. Here’s the timeline and the message I received today. Dec1 email outreach Dec 2 recruiter Round1 Dec 4 HM Round 2 Dec 10 Panel Round 3 Dec 29 -i emailed Dec - 30 - i received email “ “My apologies I have been out of office and with it being the holidays things have slowed down. Could I get back in touch on Monday the 5th once I have caught up with HM and we can connect re next steps ? We have not moved forward with any candidates genuinely things have slowed down due to the holidays and people taking holidays. Apologies again” Jan 7- I received email “Hello, I hope that you are well and had a lovely holiday period and are settling into 2026. Thank you again for your patience.I wondered if you had 10 minutes to catch up so that I could update you on your application. If yes, please feel free to schedule a day/time that works for you via my Calendly link below. Hopefully talk soon,” UPDATE Rejection Recruiter: i need another holiday after my holiday. Me: well happy new year do you have an update for me? Recruiter: Okay, I said, I'm gonna be really honest with you. I'm not gonna move forward with you,but I didn't want to ask. I just never do it. I just need a generic email. I'm sorry, Me: you are or not? Recruiter: We aren't. Me: Oh, wow, that's crazy. You know what? I would have preferred you continue to ghost me. Recruiter: hahahah, No, can't do that. Recruiters just get a bad rap then…Well, you know what I mean? Me: This isn't actually the news that I wanted, but so you're not going to move forward. and you wanted to get me on a video to tell me so? Recruiter: Yeah, it can. Some people take it the wrong way, but then I just think it's disrespectful if you spend a lot of time with us, and it also gives you an opportunity to ask me any questions, and also, you know, I can kind of just... Me: Well, thanks for letting me know. I appreciate you taking the time to call. Can I share some feedback on the process? Also, also for future candidates, if the decision is a rejection, an email would be much more respectful of their time than asking them to schedule a video call. Uh, getting hopes up on a call to deliver bad news feels unnecessarily drawn out and done right cruel. After our 1st interview, you mentioned you'd send me benefits information to review. I never received that. After the 2nd interview, you said you'd send me prep materials for the panel interview. I didn't receive that either. Then after the panel on December 10th, I didn't hear anything for weeks despite following up multiple times. When you were finally responded on the 30th, you promised to reconnect on January 5th. That didn't happen either. I understand hiring timelines can shift, but the pattern of commitments not being followed through, plus scheduling a video call for a rejection, made this a very frustrating experience that really looked poorly upon yourself and upon the organization as a whole. For future candidates, more consistent communication will go a long way. Thank you for your time. And it's been nice spending the month in limbo. Recruiter: I can only apologize. Me: For which part? For which part? Recruiter: Well, I guess for all of it, like, I've been doing this for 15 years. Me: I can't tell. 15 years? I can't I can't tell. Recruiter: Look, do you know what? Like, I'm not gonna get into this. Me: CLICK
