I’m a Marine Vet and was messaging other vets in high executive positions directly on LinkedIn asking if they were hiring.(My industry is Commercial Real Estate/ Project Management) The vet I messaged who is a VP responded and said that they where and scheduled a casual teams call to get to know me. Despite the emphasis on casual that the VP placed on this call, I treated it like an interview and prepared. I absolutely crushed the “casual introduction” and was invited for an interview person interview. At the in person interview I met the team which included 4 people (2 of which I have never met as they where not on the call). Then the boss comes in. He is annoyed and seems like he doesn’t want to be there. I immediately realized that this guy seemed like he had better things to do than talk to me which completely threw me off as I honestly went into this in person interview thinking I had the job. Every single hesitation the boss had about hiring me I fought. I was absolutely relentless and looking back I’m absolutely impressed with myself. The in person interview was about 2 hours and mainly consisted off this boss telling me why he shouldn’t hire me and me telling him why he should. About 4 hours after the interview he texted me apologizing for coming off as rude and told me I got the job. He said he was pissed off his VP made him meet me because going in he knew he wasn’t going to hire me and it was a waste of his time but I convinced and impressed him. The point of this story bros is to prepare for your interviews and every single critique of your resume you need to challenge. Never let the interviewer have a reason not to hire you. Wish me luck at my new job.
