I applied for a position on Wednesday, despite the listed pay being a (low) level I hadn't received in over a decade. But after being unemployed for two and a half years, I knew I had to settle. I have decades of graphic design/arts experience, and the same in using Macintosh computers. I knew I wouldn't be totally miserable. Friday morning I got a phone call about the job. He posed me a few questions, then asked what I'm hoping to make in wages. I took a risk and said at least… and said four dollars an hour more than they had stated. He said that should be doable. He told me the lead graphic artist was out, but she had asked him to reach out to me. They will call next week to set up an in-person, which I'm sure (based on the job listing) will include proof of my ability to use an Adobe Creative Suite. I already told him I was using PageMaker when it was still owned by Aldus, so transitioning to inDesign was easy. I also used Deneba Canvas (a vector + pixel program back in the day), which made Illustrator a breeze for me. I've got this. I'm a bit boosted that the job is no longer posted on Indeed. That could still mean, in this job market, that they have twenty other candidates to interview and test. So fingers crossed that the interview is just a formality.
