I've worked for this organisation for 13 years. We have onsite residencies and they recently invited employees to express interest and interview for them to live onsite. The residency I applied for is within the particular area that I supervise, so I thought I would have the strongest application going in. Everyone I spoke to at work fully expected I would get the position as to them it's logical and makes sense. I've since been told that although I gave a good interview, someone else has been successful as they have security experience from a previous employment (this was listed as an advantage but not essential). I do have locking up and opening up responsibilities in my role and have to take care of alarm codes ect, so these seems like a very narrow focus to select the other person over me, especially when it's an area I supervise. Essentially I feel like I'm deemed to be good enough to supervise during the day, but not good enough to supervise on the evenings when the site is closed. I can't get my head around that and worry it will impact how staff look at me and hurt my supervision. I have a funny feeling that one of the members of the the panel has a dislike / bias towards me. Not so much a dislike on a personal level, but perhaps a question mark on my ability and character. I also feel due to his seniority he may have steered the decision away from me. Colleagues have shown suprise and incredulity to the selection. I am very upset and I'm unsure what to do. Any action I take is not going to impact the outcome and will likely only hurt my prospect going forward. Furthermore, one of the selection panel is married to my boss, so my sense of loyalty says not to push things. However the apparent unfairness is eating at me and I've lost my passion and heart for the organisation. What should / could I do, to resolve this?
