A few days ago, a company founder reached out to me on LinkedIn, saying they were looking for a Web3 Product Manager and that my profile was a good fit. After I asked for more details about the role, we scheduled an interview. Up to that point, everything seemed normal and legitimate. Today, I had a meeting with the company’s hiring manager. After going through the usual introductions, they sent me a GitHub repository with the project code and details. Then they asked me to download the code to my computer and run it via VS Code. When I asked why this was necessary, they said it was to test the project and review the technical aspects together. In the next step, they told me that after running the code, a page would open on localhost in my browser, and at that stage, I would need to connect one of my cold wallets (such as MetaMask or Phantom) via a browser extension. They claimed that since the platform is Web3-based, it wouldn’t work without a connected wallet address. At that point, I told them I couldn’t proceed due to security concerns and asked them to share their screen instead so I could review the technical details. They said they were connected via a tablet and couldn’t share their screen. That’s when it became clear to me that this was not a legitimate hiring process but rather a scam attempt. I ended the meeting right after. My question is: has anyone experienced something similar? It’s really concerning that people are now trying to scam others through fake recruitment processes even on LinkedIn. It’s truly shameful.
