Technical Interview Round 1 Interviewers: Two interviewers were present. Questions: Introduction: The interview began with the classic prompt, “Tell me about yourself.” OOP Concepts: Basic principles of Object-Oriented Programming were covered. Puzzle: I was asked to solve the classic “two-beaker” puzzle, which focuses on measuring a specific amount of water. SQL Query: I was initially asked to find the second-highest salary using LIMIT and OFFSET . The interviewers then challenged me to provide an alternative solution without using LIMIT . I wrote a subquery, which had a higher time complexity, and later explained the optimal subquery version. Project-Based Questions: There was a detailed discussion on one of my projects, covering the full Software Development Life Cycle (SDLC), including tools, deployment processes, and CI/CD practices. Cloud Knowledge: The interviewers inquired about my familiarity with cloud technologies. Other Technical Questions: SQL: Asked to find the 3rd highest salary by joining two tables based on account ID. Systems Design: I explained how Google Search works internally. Unlisted Skills: Discussed technical skills I had acquired outside of my resume. Team Project Contributions: I elaborated on my role and experience with project documentation. Takeaway: Knowledge of Computer Networks and Cloud technologies is beneficial for technical rounds at Avaya, even at a high level. HR +
Technical Interview Round 2 Questions: Introduction: The interviewer started with “Tell me about yourself.” Background: Questions about my family background, involvement in college clubs, technical societies, and leadership roles were asked. Academic Performance: My academic record was reviewed, noting fluctuations: above 90% in 10th grade, below 90% in 12th grade, and above 9 CGPA in college. I explained this variation, particularly emphasizing my focus on entrance exam preparation during 12th grade. The interviewers also asked about my JEE Mains and CET percentiles and ranks. Situational Question: I was asked, “When you walk on stairs, do you take one step at a time or more than one?” I explained that it depends on time availability, generally taking one step at a time. The interviewer then asked, “Are you good at time management?” which led to a discussion about my time management skills. Verdict
Outcome I was offered the position; however, due to a change in the company’s financial situation, Avaya revoked the offer after two months. Reflection and Advice Interview Focus: Avaya’s interview process balances technical fundamentals with adaptability and situational awareness.
